Many times, we do not come to know that the other person is suffering from an infectious disease. We can get the infection without knowing that the other person is ill. Sneezing is the most common way by which an infection spreads from one person to another. Rest and nutrition helps in increasing immunity and resistance to infections. Wash Hands
The first step of preventing infections is to wash hands. Wash hands with soap and then dry them properly. If water is not available for washing the hands, wipe the hands with hand gel. Use a hand gel that contains alcohol. Avoid touching mouth and eyes when the hands are not washed. Disease causing germs live in things like the computer and light switch. When we touch these things, the germs are transferred to our hands. We can get infection if we eat without washing the hands.
Personal Care
Cover the mouth while coughing and sneezing. Throw the tissue with which you have covered the mouth. The droplets and liquid of cough and sneeze spreads the bacteria and virus to other people. Do not use other people personal items such as towels, handkerchief and toilet items. Avoid sharing toothbrush and razor. These items are source of germs and can cause infection.
Food Safety
The E. coli bacteria attack the intestine and spreads through contaminated water as well as food. You can prevent this bacterial infection by washing food articles like fruits and vegetables before cooking and eating them. If you eat non-vegetarian food like meat, ensure that it is cooked completely before eating it. Proper cooking of meat helps in preventing bacterial infection. Wrong cooking and dining habits can cause infections. Germs grow on food kept on room temperature. Keep the leftover food in a refrigerator as it prevents the growth of germs in the food. The countertop of the kitchen should be kept clean.
Prevent infections through vaccination. It is the best technique of protecting from infectious diseases. Consult a doctor and ask for vaccinations. Take the annual flu shot. It helps in preventing influenza. Pneumococcal vaccine can help in protecting from pneumonia.
Safety While Traveling
It is important to prevent infections while travelling. People who visit underdeveloped countries get infections. Many areas of the world have unsafe water, which is one of the main causes of infection. When travelling in such areas, you should always use bottled water. Brush the teeth with bottled water. Ensure that food you take is cooked properly. Do not take raw foods as these foods can cause infections. Consult a doctor and get vaccinations while travelling.
Avoid Infections by Pets
Pets are the most common source of infections. Pets should undergo checkups so that diseases can be detected and treated. Get the pets vaccinated regularly. Avoid contact with animal feces. Some animal diseases like rabies, fleas as well as ticks can affect humans. Take steps to eliminate rodents from your house. Destroy the hiding place and nests of these animals. Ensure that the trash containers do not have waste food. Seal holes through which the rodents enter the house.
