Motivation puts a great impact over the performance of the students as every student wants to be motivated by his parents and teachers in the way that can enhances his performances for good academic results. Every students is different from the other so in the same they are motivated in different ways where some students are motivated when their performance is appreciated where as other are motivated when they are punished for their bad results. There are different ways of motivating a student for academic achievements but the only thing that needs to be done is to understand the ways which suits best on the particular student.
Types of Motivation
Basically there are two types of motivation and both the types of motivation affect the academic performance of the students but in a different way. So these are the types of motivation as follows:-
- Extrinsic Motivation:- It is a type of motivation where parents give candies or stickers for the good performance of their child and they are also rewarded in their academics for their performances. So this type of motivation is called extrinsic motivation.
- Pros and Cons:- It is easy to produce extrinsic motivation by rewarding the child for his good performance but after a time the child works only the rewarded which they will get and his focus shifted from academic achievement to rewards which is one of the disadvantage of this type motivation.
- Intrinsic Motivation:- Curiosity and a sense of accomplishment that the subject is relevant to student’s life which drives the academic performances.
- Pros and Cons:- The process of intrinsic motivation is very slow because it is difficult to develop this motivation very easily as it needs to developed differently on every child. But the advantage of this motivation is that it is self-driven which increase the performance of the child lifelong.
Intrinsic motivation should be foster on the students not only for good academic performances but also for a good future because those students who do not have intrinsic motivation in their school days they performs very poor compared to the one that have intrinsic motivation. The students must be motivated in the right direction from their early days of learning so that they can perform well in their academics to build a good future. When the base of the child is strong then they definitely achieve success in their carrier or job and establish themselves very well. In fact people come to them for taking their suggestions that how they achieve success in their career. Motivation is both advantageous as well as disadvantageous for the students but to make it advantageous if up to on the parents or teacher of that students. They should make their children motivated towards the advantages of the motivation and not towards its disadvantages. Because the motivation puts a great impact on the performance of the students and this impact stays with them for lifelong so the impact needs to be positive which enhances their performances.
