One of the social networking sites, Twitter, has created official hashtags for football world cup, 2014. two key words, #WorldCup and #Brazil2014, will all the updates and actions live for the coming 64 matches. These two official hast tags will come into existence by Friday, 12th June, 2014. The new face of technology will enable people to join in conversations together throughout the world, through the chirping of social media, Twitter.
Hastags are a word or phrase used with a ‘#’ sign. These signs are used excessively along the words on social networking sites. The use of hashtags makes it possible for a group to see messages, that has a common message. Clicking on a hashtagged word in any message shows you all other Tweets marked with that keyword.
It is officially announced that FIFA 2014, will start from 12th June, 2014 to 13th July, 2014. it will be having its opening matches in Sao Paolo between Brazil and Croatia. To add more to the tweeting experience, Twitter has introduced a feature called XI dream team. This dream team is made up of the most mentioned player Twitter @handles in the past three months. The top three mentioned players on Twitter are Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Neymore Junior. Twitter stated that there are more than 300 players from the 32 competing nations. Also, the representatives of all the competing teams have a presence on the platform. Twitter is now considered as a second screen to TV broadcast. This was declared in a global research by Neilsen. He further stated in his research that it creates a space for live commentary in the moment, from fans and experts alike, across sports.
According to Neilsen, 50% of Tweets about TV in 2013 were related to sports and 492 million Tweets sent in 2013 were about sports events. Additionally, there were 1.7 million tweets about the football World Cup draw globally in two hours.
