How to determine Academic Achievement?

There needs to be a proper way for determining or measuring the academic achievement that will help in knowing the level of the child which tells the performance graph of the students and towards which direction their graph is moving. The performance of the students are usually measured on a single scale which is not correct in fact it should be measured by considering multiple scales which accurately tells the overall performances of the students and also the places where there is need of improvement. There are different measures through which the students’ performances may be measured but for this the teacher must know that which measure is suitable for measuring which type of performance and which measure is the best indicator of overall performances of the student. Every measure tells something different about the students so after measuring each measure them needs to be combined for the actual result of the students as this give the real achievements or success of the students in their academic career.

• Standardized Achievement Test:- Under this test the students are being tested with other average students through a standard test which is taken across the country. These tests are very advantageous as they have reliability and validity as they are made after a research for the measurement of the performances of the students in a better way. But the disadvantage of these tests is that they do not ask the questions of the students’ classroom exercise in fact they have their own coursework which is not based on the syllabus of the students.
• Analyses of State Test Result:- Under this every state analyze the result of these tests in their own way and they have different parameters for analyzing the performance of the students and they work accordingly. But there is no standardize method for analyzing the result which is one its disadvantages and the another one is if for example the students has cleared the exam on the basis of his luck or guessing then his performance could not be measured in the correct way. So the students need to be analyzed in different ways to know their actual performance for better academic results.
• Informal Survey:- Using informal surveys for the measurement of the academic performances is also one of the good method with this is could be know that what is being taught to the student and how much they know about it and what are the things that needs to be re-taught for the better understanding of the students.
