Home Remedies For Treating Anemia

Anemia is a condition in which the RBC count in the body falls drastically. Healthy red blood cells are crucial to binding oxygen in our bodies. In anemia, when there are not sufficient red blood cells in the body or hemoglobin, the cells may not get the required oxygen in order to function properly. This can lead to tiredness, fatigue, and most commonly, iron deficiency.

Common symptoms of anemia:
Although most of the important symptoms are common and may go unnoticed, these symptoms should be taken seriously. It’s recommended to get your hemoglobin count checked at regular intervals to prevent such cases. Here are some of the common symptoms of anemia.

  • Unexplained fatigue
  • Dullness of skin
  • Low on energy
  • Constant palpitations
  • Moodiness
  • Shortness of breath
  • Severe hair fall

According to WHO, men with less than 13 gm of hemoglobin per deciliter and women with less than 12 are anemic. However, anemia can be treated with regular care and caution. The first step towards treating anemia is to consult with your doctor about taking iron supplements and enriching your diet with iron-rich foods. Here are some of the best homemade remedies that can help restore energy and treat anemia.

1. Eat green
Green vegetables like spinach, celery, broccoli, etc contain chlorophyll and are a rich source of iron. Remember that it’s best to have cooked spinach since raw leaves contain oxalic acid which may prevent the body from absorbing iron present in it.

2. Drink juices
Beetroot or pomegranate juices freshly made are amazing builders of blood and also help to purify it. Beetroots are a great source of folic acid and can be combined with apple, carrot, or pomegranates that are rich in iron and other minerals like copper and potassium. These juices, if taken regularly, can boost energy levels and allow healthy blood flow.

3. Copper-charged water
It is advisable to store water in a copper vessel or water bottle overnight and have it the first thing in the morning. It helps in replenishing the body with natural minerals and is also great for treating hair loss.

4. Sesame seeds
Consuming black sesame seeds boosts iron in the body. Seeds can be soaked in the water for about 2 to 3 hours before consuming and then ground into a paste. This can be had with a teaspoon of honey regularly.

5. Dates and Raisins
Vitamin C and iron are found in abundance in these dried fruits. This allows the body to absorb iron quite efficiently from them. They are also great energy providers. These can be soaked overnight and then had along with breakfast or as a mid-meal snack.
